Born Valentine’s Day asked:
I have a bachelor’s degree in business, am currently an Ult. Tech, and finishing Resp. Courses. Would I make more money with all this education behind my belt or Would I start making from the bottom rung of the ladder? How much does it really start?
I mean what would be the pay scale for a resp. therapist considering all my background?

I don’t think your background in sonography would help you getting into respiratory tech/therapy.As far as which pays better, I think it’s sonography. Just do a search on salary.com….and pick one.
In my experience, in a hospital setting, you other degrees will be meaningless in terms of pay at entry level. You generally make more as you progress from CRT to RRT, then the additional certifications of NPS, CPFT, RPFT. You also do better with ACLS, PALS, NALS, NRP. Then if you become a member of the transport team. With that being said, if you have the opportunity to be management, your business degree will help. Also if you want to go into DME and sales, your business degree will be beneficial.
In my RT class, 50 percent of us had other degrees including business, computers, physical therapy, liberal arts, and nursing (training in another country). Many people were planning on going on for advanced degrees such as PA and other degrees.
speak to your clinical instructors and profs. They can give you a better idea in your area in the pay scale.
Best wishes.
