Okay, I dropped out of high school. I’m 18 and I am working on getting my GED. I have already decided that after I receive my GED, I want to further my education to become an Ultrasound Tech. I don’t know how to go about doing so. Do I go to a community college first, or do I go to a school for ultrasound techs? Both? I need help, please. Anyone with experience would be most helpful.
Thank you very much,
Megan (:

With the current bad economic times I am leaning towards going into a more secure career field in Health Care. I am currently researching various schools, and salary. I am looking for a response from someone who is currently working as a Medical Sonographer (Ultrasound Tech).. How important is the name of the school I choose? Ie… a well known university vs..a smaller school..

I have my masters degree in Education. There are no jobs available in my area. In fact, the area seems to be cutting even more jobs. This seems to be the case in multiple states. So my question is: Should I get my MED or should I just pursue a second Bachelors Degree? I am interested in becoming an Ultrasound Tech (which would generally take about 2 years to complete). Both choices require more student loans, so I am unsure what the best option would be. Any advice?

An associate’s degree program is often the learning path of choice for most people seeking to become sonographers. The education program of choice for a lot of soon to be sonographers is an associate’s degree program. You will simply be required to devote 2 years of your life to accomplish this course, appropriate enough to help you become eligible for fantastic occupations. You could be capable of finding educational institutions offering a faster certificate program, but it will only be beneficial if you curently have a background in the health care field. Despite the fact that faster certificate curriculum can be found in a handful of educational facilities, you can simply enroll in it assuming you have already secured a college degree in healthcare. In case you have recently concluded a educational program in healthcare, you could be allowed to attend a certificate program available in particular schools. Should you prefer a more complete training, you can go for a bachelor’s degree program which should need Four years to finish. If you are searching for enhanced occupations after graduation, a 4-year bachelor’s degree program should get you there. Before you start to attend any study course, just be sure you assess just what is listed in the course summary. You must check properly the subject matter included in the study course prior to making any plans for enrollment. Apart from getting sufficient classroom hours in ultrasound technology, the course also must have internship. A formal study course in ultrasound technology will only be good enough if it is made up of both classroom lessons and internship. Ensure that the study course you will attend has both in-class coaching and internship as well. Students need internship as it offers a first-hand experience on being employed as a sonographer and enhances skills too. Clinical instruction is a must mainly because it functions as an on-the-job training to enrich an individual’s skill and competence in sonography. Another way to make sure that you are getting towards a study course with high standards is to inspect the accreditation of the institution. If you want to make perfectly sure that you will end up getting no less than superior training, one credential that a college ought to have is accreditation. Another primary variable that you have to give some thought to is the accreditation of the college – this is an ideal mark of their ability to give high quality training. It is preferred that you check out the university or college website and verify whether or not the training curriculum they are providing are certified by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Before making any decisions to attend a particular sonography college, make sure that their available study curriculum are all certified by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

PLEAS READ FIRST:
-I already have my A.A. In General Education
-I want to be a n Ultrasound tech.
-I am about to begin the classes to get into the radiology tech program at the local college. which will give me an A.A. in radiology tech.
-there is no Ultrasound tech program where I live
Ok so here is the real question Is it a waste of time to do this program first (radiology). the nearest school for Ultrasound tech is in Richmond, and in order to get into the program you have to have completed either:
-60 gen ed units (which I have) and G.P.A of 2.75, which I do not have (mine is a 2.5) , and a couple science courses (phisio, micro biology, and anatomy) all of which I have not done yet,
-or -
-a 2 year program (like radiology). So is better just doing only the sciences and work on boosting my GPA, somehow and obtaining a Certificate with this kaiser school in richmond, OR Getting my A.A. in radiology technology First, then doing the rest after that. I have 3 kids, so I want to do what will result in a good career that pays well with out wasting any time.
